Day Five of the Vienna Open will take place on Friday, October 27, with the quarter-finals getting underway. Here is our preview of the day at the ATP 500 tournament, with Alexander Zverev, Jannik Sinner, and Andrey Rublev set to take to the court at the Wiener Stadthalle.
First up on Center Court, top seed Daniil Medvedev will face eighth seed Karen Khachanov. The 27-year-old made it through a difficult battle against Grigor Dimitrov in his previous round, where he had to fight back from a set down to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Medvedev has faced Khachanov five times before, with a 4-1 lead in their head-to-head. He won their most recent clash in the semi-finals at the Miami Open earlier this year. Although Khachanov has had a cleaner run at the tournament so far, defeating Roman Safiullin and Jiri Lehecka in straight sets, it will be difficult to prevail over the World No. 3 if he is on form.

Rublev set for epic clash with Zverev as Tsitsipas takes on Gojo

Following this, fourth Tsitsipas will face wildcard Borna Gojo. The Greek player has been having a difficult season as of late but has built up a better run here by defeating Dominic Thiem and Tomas Machac to reach the last 8. This will be his first meeting with the World No. 77, so it will be interesting to see how their abilities match up.
Next, third seed Rublev will take on fifth seed Zverev in what many fans are anticipating to be an epic clash. The two players are both ranked inside the Top 10 and have looked very much on form in Vienna, as neither has yet dropped a set at the tournament.
Zverev has a convincing 5-2 lead in their head-to-head, but Rublev won their most recent clash at the 2023 Bastad Open. Moreover, the German player is still trying to ensure qualification for the ATP Finals in Turin, which could serve as either extra motivation or extra pressure.
Meanwhile, Rublev secured his spot with his win in the previous round against Matteo Arnaldi, so how he reacts to the fulfillment of this goal could be crucial to the outcome of his encounter with Zverev.
Finally, second seed Jannik Sinner will face World No. 14 Frances Tiafoe. The former flew past his compatriot Lorenzo Sonego to make the quarter-finals after overcoming a closely contested battle against Ben Shelton in the opening round.
Meanwhile, Tiafoe fought back from a set down to defeat Gael Monfils 5-7, 6-1, 6-4. He has faced Sinner three times before, with the Italian narrowly leading their head-to-head 2-1.
