The road to the US Open will see stars of the ATP stop in Washington, United States for the DC Open (also known as Mubadala Citi DC Open for sponsorship purposes), which is scheduled to run this summer from July 29-August 4, 2024. The prize money and points breakdown is now set.
An ATP 500 event, the DC Open will feature a 48-player singles field and doubles draw open to 16 teams. Furthermore, the hard court event will be held in collaboration with the WTA, with both tournaments running concurrently.
This tournament is unique as the only combined ATP and WTA 500 event globally and has a long-standing history, co-founded by tennis legends Arthur Ashe, Donald Dell, and John A. Harris. It has hosted numerous top players over the years, including Andre Agassi, who holds the record for the most titles, and other champions like Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Andy Roddick, and the Williams sisters.
Several top ATP stars have been confirmed to participate at the tournament, which the fourth-longest running pro tennis event in the U.S. Former World No.3 Grigor Dimitrov will be leading the field, and the Bulgarian veteran will be joined by a host of Americans including Ben Shelton, Frances Tiafoe and Sebastian Korda.
The ATP DC Open will offer a total prize money pool of $2,100,230, a hefty amount based on the talent competing at the event. The champion will walk away with $368,585 and 500 ranking points, which could be pivotal in the race to the US Open.
While in the women's tournament, Emma Raducanu, Aryna Sabalenka, Ons Jabeur among others headline proceedings albeit with a lot less prize money on offer. There is in comparison $922,573 on offer for the WTA overall prize money. An increase of 18.18% for the overall winner with $142,000 as the overall paycheck. A first round loser receives $9,830.
Both are on the ATP 500 and WTA 500 calendar and serve as tournaments for those not qualified or not wishing to play the Olympic Games in this instance.
