Martina Trevisan has slammed those who see Jannik Sinner as having a boring style of play and being panned as 'unexciting'.
Sinner has developed into a formidable World No.1 at the top of his game with the Italian sitting at the top for 58 straight weeks even through his ban from the sport for a doping violation earlier this year.
Such has been his dominance that he wasn't derailed by that or even losing the final of Roland Garros to a certain Carlos Alcaraz in a rivalry seen as the tennis showdown to watch for the future.
In fact it was perhaps more difficult to defeat Alcaraz on grass but he managed to do it to win Wimbledon. Alcaraz had previously been the champion two years in a row on the surface and has become the new grass court king in lieu of a certain Novak Djokovic ailing of sorts. Trevisan spoke in an interview to an Italian publication.
The Italian who was a previous top 20 star and a thorn in the side of top names has not been at her best for some time herself. She had to be operated on for Haglund's syndrome earlier in 2025. A condition which is to do with the abnormality of the bone and soft tissues in the foot.
But she heaped praise on Sinner and said that the way he plays tennis even defies the law of physics. As well as that anyone who finds him boring has never picked up a racquet.
“He’s an extraordinary guy, and you can’t help but root for him, for the clean, sharp tennis he displays every time,” said Trevisan to Fanpage.
“Anyone who accuses him of having an unexciting style of play has probably never picked up a racket, because watching Jannik play, recognising how he makes even the most complex movements appear simple, is a joy for the eyes and the heart.
“And I’m not just saying this as a fan, but also as a professional who knows how certain backhand down-the-line shots are a slap in the face of the laws of physics.”

Sinner's mental fortitude should be taught in schools - Trevisan

But while he did lose in Paris, Trevisan marvelled that his ability to recover and readapt should be taught in schools and every tennis academy as he showed a deft touch for coming back from a setback like losing in the final in Paris to win at Wimbledon.
She added that after having three match points, it showed him to have the mental toughness and resilience to compete at the top level.
“The final result often depends on how focused and determined you are, how much you manage to stay steady in the decisive point.
“In the case of the Paris defeat, after three match points, Jannik demonstrated a capacity for recovery and resilience that I think should be studied in every tennis academy, indeed in every school.”
Trevisan is back playing lower level while Sinner himself will likely return in two weeks in Canada. Carlos Alcaraz compared to Sinner is currently sunning it up on holiday with his friends. But the action will resume soon with Toronto, Cincinnati and Flushing Meadows in quick succession. Sinner of course is defending champion in New York this year so faces the challenge of defending what is his again and players like Trevisan believe he can do just that.
