The journey of
Milos Raonic in his quest to achieve the feat of winning the
Canadian Open (the Masters 1000 officially called National Bank Open) advances to the next round. The local tennis player has managed to beat Japan's Taro Daniel 4-6, 3-6 in the second round of the tournament.
In the first set, neither player was able to break each other on the scoreboard. At 2-2, Raonic had two break points but could not materialize any of them. Not a single break point was seen again until 4-5 in favor of the local player. That is where the Canadian managed to take the set by breaking Daniel's serve, although the Japanese saved the first two set points.
In the second set everything went more smoothly for Milos Raonic. Taking advantage of the psychological blow that meant for Taro Daniel to lose the set with a break, and the huge support that the public was giving him, the Canadian tennis player managed to chain three consecutive games, thanks to a break at 0-1, to get a 0-3 cushion, putting the match on track.
Daniel got his first game of the set to take 1-3, with the small hope of coming back in a match in which he had everything against him. However, Raonic was at his best, and then got a break to make it 4-1.
The next game would be the longest of the set and, saving a break point and with four chances to win the game, Daniel cut it to 2-4. Raonic was being too superior, and got another break to get to 2-5 with all the chances to win already. The player from Japan, effortlessly, cut it back to 3-5, but with the feeling that the Canadian was saving his strength to close the match with his serve. Finally, it was to be and Raonic took the match 4-6, 3-6.
Raonic has been outstanding on his return as he managed to eliminate in the first round a Top 10 player of the ATP ranking such as Frances Tiafoe. On this occasion, the Canadian has got rid of Taro Daniel to advance to the third round, where he will face Mackenzie McDonald, who has surprised Andrey Ruvlev in the second round in two sets.
