Britain's tennis star
Andy Murray has been ruled out of
Wimbledon 2024 because of a back injury. The 37-year-old is regarded as one of
the greatest players from Great Britain to have played the game.
Murray has struggled with fitness concerns throughout his
career. For this reason, he retired from tennis just after the Australian Open in 2018. But he miraculously returned to the court soon after and has managed to play until now.
However, Murray has suffered yet another blow, as he has been ruled out of Wimbledon because of a back injury. The former world number one, as per the report, has undergone back surgery, which is why he will not take part in the third Grand Slam of the year. The report stated that the recovery from the latest surgery will take about six weeks. On the other hand, Wimbledon 2024 will begin on July 1st, and players from all over the world will battle to secure the ultimate prize.
It is not the first time Murray has suffered a serious
injury this year. Earlier, he suffered an ankle injury, which ruled him out of
action for two months. The news will be a major setback for Murray fans as well
who would've been hoping to see him play one more time before he will finally
call it quits.
Murray has recently expressed his desire to retire after the Wimbledon and Olympics. It is unclear whether he will still
follow that route in the coming days. The Glasgow-born star has a fabulous record while playing at
Wimbledon, where he lifted the title twice.
His first title while playing
in London came in 2013 where he defeated the former world number one Novak
Djokovic of Serbia in the final with a score of in straight sets with a score
of 6–4, 7–5, 6–4. His last triumph while playing on home soil came in 2016
where he got the better of Canada’s Milos Raonic with a score of 6–4, 7–6(7–3),
7–6(7–2).
