It was his first match at Roland Garros since 2019 but Roger Federer won comfortably 6-2 6-4 6-3 against Denis Istomin.
Roger Federer truly looked like the Federer of old as he cruised past Denis Istomin at the Roland Garros. Federer played amazing tennis especially early taking the opening set with 6-2 in a little over 20 minutes. He moved well, he was hitting forehand winners, backhand winners and Istomin stood no chance.
Istomin played a bit better in the remainder of the match and Federer scaled back the intensity a little bit but it was still more than enough to overcome his opponent. He was clinical in key moments winning over 80 % of his 2nd serves. He did not allow his opponent a single break point in the whole match and hit 8 aces while committing 0 double faults.
A truly majestic return for Federer to the Court Philippe Chatrier where he showed tennis skill many doubted he still posses. Just under one and a half hours and he is in the 2nd round of the French Open. Great to have him back.
