Roger Federer will likely exit the top 10 after Indian Wells. He is dropping 300 points from IW and 180 from Shanghai. Will he ever be back?
Roger Federer has not been ranked outside the top 10 since 2017 but the Swiss ace will drop out of it after the Indian Wells.
This week is the week of the Indian Wells Masters and while the event will run for close to two weeks upon its completion we will get a new ranking on the Monday after. That Monday will be a disappointing one for Roger Federer fans who will see their favourite players ranked outside the top 10 for the first time since 2017.
Federer would have dropped out of the top 10 earlier had there not been the protected ranking inserted due to the pandemic but with the protected ranking coming to an end he is set to lose major points in the next fortnight. He will lose 300 points earner at the 2019 Indian Wells as well as 180 points from the Shanghai Masters which won't be held this year again.
That combined is more than enough to send the Swiss ace out of the top 10 and it will be interesting to see how far he will drop while he recovers from the knee surgery. There is no protected ranking in place so he will continually lose points. It also might be the last time Federer is ranked inside the top 10 but many hope it wasn't.
