A fire broke out at a Roger Federer party that he put on during the final weekend of Wimbledon. Security had to spend an hour putting out the flames after two female guests started the fire flicking cigarette butts onto wood chippings.
The eight-time Wimbledon champion who was spotted in the Royal Box sitting on his own earlier in the week when everyone had gone home has been in London enjoying himself at Wimbledon in a rare sighting for the iconic Swiss ace.
He was in attendance at this lavish garden bash on Sunday with guests including snooker player Steve Davis and MMA champion Tom Aspinall. There was a magician and falconry display, albeit the real fire was meters away from the owls as one bad decision nearly proved fatal.
“It was all pretty surreal. Everyone has been having a lovely afternoon and then suddenly we could smell smoke. There were a few audible gasps as people realise a fire had broken out, and was spreading fast," said one of the guests as per The Sun.

No one was hurt but Federer likely will think twice

“But luckily the security teams leapt into action with hoses and buckets of water, and after 20 minutes it had been safely contained. A guy spent the next for monitoring it and making sure no further damage was done. In the end, it was a hugely successful and fun evening.”
The 400 guests were asked to move away from the trouble and the party which included a charity action was able to continue. The two guests who had started the fire were asked to leave and escorted out.

A selection of former World Champion, Anthony Joshua's belts were on display and so in theory, it could've gone very wrong. No-one was hurt in the fire, but it shows what happens when one small decision can impact many.
Federer who played at Wimbledon on the practice courts over the weekend has often taken a back seat since retirement when it comes to involvement in public life apart from the odd appearance and no doubt would swerve putting on such a lavish soiree in the future if this is the result.
