Rafael Jodar’s extraordinary breakthrough season has earned another major recognition, with the 19-year-old Spaniard selected by Team Europe captain Yannick Noah for the 2026 Laver Cup in London. Jodar will make his debut in the prestigious team competition when the event returns to The O2 from September 25-27, joining a European squad led by Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev.
The teenager becomes the latest addition to a Team Europe lineup that already features four players ranked inside the world’s top 25. World No. 2 Zverev, No. 3 Alcaraz, No. 9 Flavio Cobolli and No. 19 Jakub Mensik were previously confirmed, while Noah now has only one remaining selection to complete his six-man roster.
Jodar’s selection reflects one of the biggest rises on the ATP Tour in 2026. At the beginning of the season, the Spaniard was not even inside the top 150 of the rankings, but a spectacular clay-court campaign changed his trajectory. His first ATP title in Marrakech was followed by deep runs at some of the biggest tournaments of the season.
The 19-year-old reached the semifinals in Barcelona and then produced three consecutive quarter-final appearances at Masters 1000 level in Madrid and Rome, as well as at Roland Garros. That consistency against elite opposition pushed him into the top 25 and established him as one of the most promising young players in men's tennis.

“One of the brightest young talents”: Yannick Noah explains Rafael Jodar selection

Noah highlighted not only Jodar’s results, but also the competitive mentality that has helped him make such a rapid rise throughout the season. “Rafael has had an outstanding season and has earned this opportunity,” Noah said to Laver Cup website. “He’s one of the brightest young talents in our sport and has shown he belongs on the biggest stages. What I like most is the way he competes.”
The Team Europe captain believes Jodar will bring a different energy to the group, adding: “He’ll bring energy, belief and a real hunger to Team Europe, and I’m excited to welcome him into the group.”

For Jodar, the selection represents a dream opportunity to share a team with players he has admired throughout his career. The Spaniard admitted the Laver Cup has always been a unique event because of its combination of individual competition and team atmosphere.
“The Laver Cup is unlike anything else in tennis and I can’t wait to be part of Team Europe,” Jodar said. “Growing up, you watch players like these and dream of one day sharing a team with them. To have that opportunity is incredibly special.”

Team Europe and Team World approach London with one final spot still open

With Jodar’s arrival, Team Europe now has five confirmed players and only one remaining spot to complete Yannick Noah’s six-man roster. The European team will be led by Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev, while Flavio Cobolli, Jakub Mensik and Jodar complete the lineup so far. Meanwhile, Team World has already finalized its squad under captain Andre Agassi, with Alex de Minaur, Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz, Alexander Bublik, Learner Tien and Tommy Paul confirmed for London.
The 2026 edition will renew rivalry, with Team World entering as the defending champions after lifting the trophy in 2025 in San Francisco. Team Europe remains the most successful side in Laver Cup history, but Team World has closed the gap in recent years, winning two of the last three editions. The return to London will also add historical significance, as The O2 was the stage for Roger Federer’s final professional match alongside Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray in 2022.
