Alexander Zverev has traded Centre Court for the Mediterranean after two of the most important months of his career. Following a historic run that saw him finally win his maiden Grand Slam
title at Roland Garros and reach his first
Wimbledon final, the German star is enjoying a well-deserved break alongside one of the greatest players in tennis history:
Rafael Nadal.
The world No. 2 endured an emotional transformation during the 2026 clay and grass seasons. After years of struggling with the pressure of winning his first major title, Zverev overcame those doubts in Paris by defeating his biggest mental barrier and lifting the Roland Garros trophy for the first time in his career.
Only weeks later, the German produced another milestone by reaching the Wimbledon final, despite entering the tournament with limited previous success on grass. Although he eventually fell to Jannik Sinner in four sets, Zverev confirmed that he has become a much more complete player across different surfaces and significantly increased his chances of challenging for more Grand Slam titles.
Now, before returning to competition for the North American hard-court swing, Zverev has chosen Mallorca and Ibiza as the destination to recharge. The German was seen enjoying a day at sea with Nadal and friends, with images shared on social media showing the two Grand Slam champions spending time together away from the pressure of the ATP Tour.
Zverev’s unforgettable summer continues away from the courts
The vacation comes just days after Zverev’s latest attempt to add a second major title to his collection. At Wimbledon, the German had the opportunity to become the first man in the Open Era to win his second Grand Slam immediately after claiming his first.
However, he could not complete the challenge against Sinner, who recovered after losing a dramatic opening set to secure a 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4 victory and defend his Wimbledon crown.
Despite the disappointment, the tournament represented a major breakthrough for Zverev. Before 2026, grass had been considered his weakest Grand Slam surface, with the German never advancing beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon. This time, he defeated that narrative by reaching the championship match and showing a level of confidence that had previously been missing.
His recent success also changed the expectations surrounding his upcoming hard-court campaign. Zverev has repeatedly identified the US Open as one of his biggest goals, and after winning Roland Garros and reaching the Wimbledon final, his chances of making a deep run in New York have increased significantly.
Zverev prepares for North American hard-court challenge
After his Ibiza break, Zverev will return to action at the Canadian Open in Montreal, where he is expected to be the No. 2 seed behind Sinner.
The German recently confirmed that he will continue competing as the world No. 2, the same position he currently occupies in the ATP Race. His consistency throughout the season has established him as one of the strongest candidates for the ATP Finals in Turin.
The upcoming hard-court swing will also be an important test. Zverev will defend significant points during the next few weeks, including semifinal appearances at the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Masters, before heading to the US Open.
At Flushing Meadows, where he reached the final in 2020 but only managed a third-round appearance in 2025, Zverev will look to continue the momentum created by the most successful stretch of his career.
For now, however, the German is enjoying a rare moment away from tennis. After finally winning his first Grand Slam and reaching a second major final in the space of two months, Zverev has chosen to celebrate his breakthrough alongside Nadal — another champion who understands the demands of reaching the top of the sport.
