With five titles and 89 victories,
Roger Federer is one of the most accomplished players in the US Open history, earning 40 straight wins between 2004-2009.
The US Open Tennis Championships Youtube channel released a video that serves as a memory lane towards Roger's five New York triumphs, starting from the victory over Albert Costa in the opening round of the 2004 campaign. The Swiss needed three hours to oust Andre Agassi in five sets in the quarters before more comfortable wins against Tim Henman and Lleyton Hewitt for the first US Open crown.
In 2005, Roger faced Hewitt and Agassi again en route to the trophy, toppling the American veteran in the final 6-3, 2-6, 7-6, 6-1 to defend the title and extend the winning streak. A year later, Federer overpowered three top-10 rivals to secure the third straight New York title, writing the record books and hoping for more of the same in 2007.
Roger had to beat three top-5 rivals on his path towards the fourth US Open title, ousting Andy Roddick, Nikolay Davydenko and Novak Djokovic to become the first player with four straight crowns since the 1920s. Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray stood no chance versus Roger in 2008, and the Swiss was ready for the sixth consecutive title in 2009. Juan Martin del Potro had other plans, though, defeating Roger in five sets to secure the first Major title and end Roger's streak on 40 straight US Open victories.
