Andrey Rublev and Stan Wawrinka put up great performances on Wednesday that saw them advance to the next round.

Rublev continued his stellar run with another impressive performance against Albot. The Moldovan tennis player arrived at this event in lacklustre form and it showed against the in-form Rublev. Andrey served well, attacked well and keep points short rushing to a fast victory. The 6-1 6-2 victory took him only 59 minutes. There is not much to break down here except that Rublev was simply the better player and this match came as a good practice for him in his quest to yet another title. If he keeps this level up he could easily go all the way as no player has been playing better tennis lately than him.
The final match of the day was played between Tommy Paul and Stan Wawrinka. The American opened well breaking Stan in the first game to take a 2-0 lead. Wawrinka came back immediately to tie it 2-2 but he lost his serve once more to give Paul the lead again. From there the American held his composure and clinched the opening set 6-4. His tactic was to overwhelm Wawrinka on his backhand and the Swiss player made a lot of mistakes giving Paul quite a bit of easy points. Understanding of the situation Wawrinka came out focused in the 2nd set breaking Paul to take a 2-0 lead.
A crucial game was the next one that saw 9 deuces and lasted over 10 minutes with Paul breaking Wawrinka back thanks to some spectacular backhand winners. Despite losing the crucial game Wawrinka once more broke Paul after a poorly played game by the American. He had issues in the next game as well as Paul had two break points but Stan saved them both. A mad sequence of games ensued where Wawrinka had two set points but failed to use either. We ended up in a tiebreak where Paul finally showed some crack in his game and Stan got the win 7-3.
The final set opened solidly for both players as won their games to make it 2-2. After that Wawrinka raised his level slightly while Paul showed more and more cracks in his armour making mistakes that he didn't do previously. Wawrinka broke him to take a 4-2 lead and then added another one to make it 5-2. Ultimately the swiss ended the marvellous comeback with a 6-2 final set victory.
