Andrey Rublev will face Novak Djokovic in the Serbian Open final after easing past
Fabio Fognini 6-2 6-2.
The Russian played a couple of tricky matches this week but today's one against Fabio Fognini was not. The Russian entered the match with a lot of focus while his opponent had one of his lacklustre days where his tennis was simply off. Fognini has been playing a rather weak season overall so this Belgrade outing was a rare positive.
Even so, Rublev controlled the match from the start. The Russian took an early break and he never looked back. Fognini faced break points in all three of his first service games and he lost two of them. After taking a commanding 5-1 lead Rublev took a step back and served out the opening set with 6-2. Fognini does not have a strong second serve and that was a major issue for him in this match.
Rublev attacked at every chance he got and he created a lot of damage that way. He jumped out to an early lead in the 2nd set as well and similar to the first set he just kept adding on. Eventually, he was able to cruise to a 6-2 2nd set finish as well setting up the final against Novak Djokovic.
