Andrey Rublev hit himself on the knee after Sinner came back from 2-5 in the first set.
Already known for his passionate behavior on court, Andrey Rublev took it a step further after his semifinal loss to Jannik Sinner at last week's Vienna Open.
Rublev fell in straight sets to eventual champion Sinner, who rallied from being down 2-5 in the opening set to prevail in a 7-5 7-6(5) victory. Following his first set breakdown, Rublev hit himself on his knee with his racket, causing it to bleed.
With a clip of the incident going viral, tennis fans were quick to chime in on the ATP star's meltdown. Several were not pleased with the Russian's actions, with one fan pointing out Rublev's tendency to throw a tantrum after losing a point.
"Why does no one talk about Rublev’s behavior every time he loses either a point, game or anything basically, it’s really disturbing," the fan's tweet read.
"Rublev needs to stop doing this to himself. He is such a wonderful human off court," said another fan.
"Why is he always like this.. does he have a mental coach cuz he really needs one," wote a concerned fan.
"This self harming needs to stop," another fan said.
Nonetheless, Rublev booked his spot at the year-ending ATP Finals, which will take place in Turin from November 12-19, 2023.
