Holger Rune has cracked the top 5 in the Pepperstone ATP rankings for the first time, moving past Casper Ruud.
20-year-old Rune has reached a new career high today, Monday 14, by reaching world No. 5. The Dane first made the top 100 a year and a half ago in January 2022 and broke into the top 10 last November after his victory at the Rolex Paris Masters.
Rune is currently the highest-ranked Danish player on the ATP Tour and already has four ATP titles to his name. He has had a successful season so far, reaching two Masters 1000 finals at the Monte Carlo Masters and the Rome Open.

Milestone comes after losing first round in Canada

Ironically, this milestone comes after Rune went out in his first match at the National Bank Canadian Open in Toronto last week.
After receiving a bye through the opening round as one of the tournament's top-ranked players, the fifth seed was defeated by qualifier Marcos Giron, who won 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
However, Rune only lost 35 points from this defeat. Meanwhile, Norway's Ruud dropped down to No. 7 after having already lost his No. 4 position to Stefanos Tsitsipas the week before.
65 points behind Rune is newly-crowned Canadian Open champion Jannik Sinner, who rose from eighth to sixth following his recent victory. Meanwhile, Andrey Rublev dropped down to No. 8, and the rest of the top 10 has remained the same for now.
However, with another Masters 1000 tournament coming up this week in the form of the Cincinnati Open, players will be looking to improve upon, or at least to maintain, their current positions.
