Sebastian Korda and
Hugo Gaston made their debuts at the
Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan it saw Korda come back from two sets down and win 3-4(2) 3-4(6) 4-0 4-3(3) 4-0.
It was a brilliant match between Korda and Gaston that lasted over two hours despite the shortened format. Early on it was all Korda as the American jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Gaston who was a bit nervous to start. The Frenchman played much better after those two games taking a bit of a risky approach to the game. Korda was caught off guard and Gaston pulled it back to 2-2.
We ended up in the tiebreak after 3-3 where Gaston proved much better winning it 7-2. A similar thing happened in the 2nd set where we once again ended up in a tiebreak. It was a much closer one but once again it was the Frenchman who proved calm and won it 8-6.
The 3rd set was utter domination by Korda who elected to up his aggressiveness and Gaston could not handle it. Korda was serving well and all of that proved more than enough for the American to sweep Gaston 4-0 in it. In the next set, Gaston gave it all to try and close out the match but it did not work out. His best chance came at 3-2 when he had a set point but Korda saved it to force a tiebreak.
In it, he proved better taking it 7-3. After that Gaston simply fell apart as he was unable to match the intensity of Korda. Too many mistakes cost him the set which Korda won with 4-0. It was the best match of the day by far and quite possibly the whole event.
