Carlos Alcaraz signs the camera after reaching ATP Finals semifinals for the first time: “Semis! Siuuu”
The victory of Carlos Alcaraz in two sets (6-4, 6-4) over Daniil Medvedev has defined the semifinals of the ATP Finals 2023, despite the fact that the last match of the Red Group between Alexander Zverev, who has been eliminated after the victory of the Spaniard, and Andrey Rublev has yet to be played.
Alcaraz started off stumbling in the tournament by falling in his debut against Zverev and after he managed to win the first set of that match. However, the world No. 2 managed to pull himself together and win his next two matches against Rublev and Medvedev without dropping a single set. As a result, he has qualified for the semifinals in his first ATP Finals, although a very tough test awaits him.
The semifinals of the last event of the season will be the fourth iteration of Carlos Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic of 2023. The world No. 1 and No. 2 will meet again after they did it in the semifinals of Roland Garros, with a victory for the Serbian, in the final of Wimbledon, with a victory for the Spaniard in that epic five-set duel, and in the Cincinnati Open, where Djokovic beat Alcaraz in the longest three-set final in the history of the Masters 1000.
On the other side, Jannik Sinner, probably the most in-form player of the tournament and local, will face Daniil Medvedev. The Russian was already qualified after winning his first two matches, and he only needed to know if he was going to play against Djokovic or Sinner. Finally it was the Italian, although getting rid of the world number 1 may not be the best of ideas although it seems the opposite. Jannik Sinner's level is so high that right now he is the favorite to win the tournament.
