Andy Murray
and
Frances Tiafoe predicted that
Ben Shelton will have a good season on grass.
American
player Shelton made headlines in the tennis world when he reached the
quarterfinals of the Australian Open earlier this year. The 20-year-old was on
his first trip outside the US and was a relatively unknown debutant at the
Aussie Open.
In the
round of 16, he was defeated by his compatriot Tommy Paul, but the result still
allowed him to climb from world No. 89 to world No. 44. Shelton hasn't found
enough consistency after his strong Grand Slam performance.
Although he
hasn't won back-to-back matches on the tour since Australia, Andy Murray and
Frances Tiafoe pointed him out as a player who will have a great season on
grass. The tennis players were interviewed by the ATP and were asked which
player would make an impact on grass in the upcoming weeks.
"I
think Ben Shelton will have a good grass court season. I think his game will be
very well suited to grass with the way he plays, his serve and everything, he's
very athletic, likes to come forward so I think he'll do well," Murray
said.
"I
think Ben Shelton will make a deep run at Wimbledon. He could be a dark horse at
the event," Tiafoe claimed.
Both Murray
and Tiafoe are playing at the Queen's Club this week. Tiafoe, as the 4th seed,
will face Botic van de Zandschulp in his opening match, while former world No.
1 Murray will take on the 7th seed, Alex de Minaur.
