Andy Murray congratulated
Kei Nishikori after winning his first title in 20 months.
The two highly successful tennis players of the last decade, behind the big-3, had a great week, both securing titles. Former world No. 1 Andy Murray won his second consecutive challenger title in Nottingham, while Japanese player Kei Nishikori won the Palmas del Mar challenger.
Former world No. 4 Nishikori played his first tournament in 20 months and had a dream comeback to the tour by winning the title. Murray congratulated Nishikori on his success, saying:
"Well done Kei Nishikori, winning on your comeback."
The last time Nishikori had competed on the tour was at Indian Wells 2021, where he was eliminated in the second round by Daniel Evans. At 33 years old, he had a remarkable comeback after nearly two years of injury that had him on the brink of retirement. Nishikori responded to Murray, stating:
"Thank you Andy, you are a big inspiration," on his Twitter account.
Currently, Nishikori will take some time off in the coming weeks, while Andy Murray is competing in the ATP Queen's Club and will debut against Alex de Minaur.
