Former world number one Boris Becker believes that Italy’s Jannik Sinner will have to play the best match of his life to have any chance of beating Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon 2023 semifinal.
The 21-year-old booked his spot in the last-four clash at the third Grand Slam of the year after beating Russia’s Roman Safiullin with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 on Tuesday.
Becker, while responding to a user on a social media app Instagram, stated that Sinner will have to play out of his skin to defeat the current world number two.
“I really like Jannik and hopefully he gets his game/mentality together! Remember he had Nole last year sets to love before the warrior stormed back and won!” Becker said earlier this week.
Despite facing the most successful player in the history of men’s singles tennis in the Open Era, Sinner will feel relatively confident after securing a spot in his maiden Grand Slam semifinal.
The world number eight has lost just two sets in the entire tournament which was against France’s Quentin Halys in the third round and Safiullin in the quarterfinal.
Other than that, Sinner has secured three wins in straight sets — against Argentina’s duo of Juan Manuel Cerundolo, Diego Schwartzman and Colombia’s Daniel Elahi Galan.
