Jannik Sinner had to come from the brink to open up his Madrid Open campaign with victory over Tommy Paul at the ATP Masters 1000.
Paul let two match point slip when serving for the match at 5-3 in the second set and again at 6-5 on the Sinner serve.
But as he survived those scares, his level increased and the Italian found his way through bouncing back in a dramatic three hour spectacle.
He will now face Alex de Minaur who saw off home favourite Pedro Martinez earlier today 7-6, 1-6, 6-3 with a 3-0 Head to Head record in favour of Sinner.
While also through includes Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina who returned to the dominant Monte-Carlo version and sealed a 7-5, 6-3 win in 78 minutes.
On home soil, will face Hubert Hurkacz or Hugo Dellien next up after a performance which featured 89% of points won on first serve and 65% on second. He only lost 12 points on serve and saved the only break point Harris had.
