As 2025 comes to an end and 2026 begins, a lot of people reflect on the year that has just passed, whether good or bad. This was the case for
Jannik Sinner who reminisced on the 'incredible' highs and the 'difficult' lows.
It has been another year where the Italian has shown his class on the ATP Circuit. Along with his arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz, the Italian has raced miles clear of any competition, piling on the titles and wins while completing some amazing moments and memories that he will cherish for the rest of his life.
However, there have been moments surrounded in a dark cloud that Sinner will look to move on from. This includes most famously the doping ban he took along with all the stress that came with that sad episode. Painful final defeats were also a talking point throughout 2025, with him and Alcaraz dealing one another a lot of pain and frustration on the court.
Sinner sends message to end 2025
On
Instagram, the 24-year-old recorded a video of him saying a message to his followers. It video showed numerous clips and pictures of the events which occurred, ranging from the positive moments of celebration and jubilation to utter despair and heartache.
"Guys, what a year it has been. Some highs that felt incredible, and some lows that were very difficult to accept," he stated. "But throughout this whole year, I don’t see only results. I see big lessons. I’m really thankful for my whole team, my family, and all of you guys, for all the support you gave me throughout the whole year, it really means the world to me. For now, I wish everyone a Happy New Year, celebrate it with the people you love, and see you all very soon again on the court. Ciao Ciao.”
How good was Sinner's 2025
By anyone's standards, 2025 would be a terrific year on the court. Sinner, however, has impossibly high standards. He achieved so much that year and will reap the rewards for all the ahrd work put in as he cemented himself even further as one of the best players in the world.
It began with a bang with him defending his Australian Open title, getting the better of Alexander Zverev in the final in straight sets to begin how he ended: on top of the world. Unfortunately, his world would come crashing down, and he would not step onto the court for another three months. This was due to him failing a doping test back in 2024. The situation had been an unpleasant one for Sinner and his team, with the three month ban eventually agreed.
He was more motivated than ever for his comeback to the court, and did it on home soil - or clay. He began where he left off, comfortably leaving his opponents in his dust, He did not drop a set until the semi-final where the inform Tommy Paul managed to nick one off. However, he was no match for Alcaraz in the final. After a close first set, the Spaniard upped the gears and ran away with the title.
This was the opposite in the Roland Garros final. Alcaraz was the defending champion, but it looked like it would slip when Sinner had a two set lead. He went on to have three match points, but was unable to take them. Eventually, a fifth set tiebreaker was needed to split them, and Alcaraz was the one to come out on top. It was a heartbreaking defeat for Sinner. He did not wait long to extract his revenge, playing a blinder at Wimbledon as he defeated Alcaraz 3-1 in an impressive showing.
The pair would meet once again in both the Cincinnati Open final and US Open final. Both victories went to Alcaraz, with the four-time Grand Slam champion unable to defend any of his titles. His last loss of 2025 came when he retired against Tallon Griekspoor in the Shanghai Masters. Before hand he won the China Open. He would go on to win the Six Kings Slam, Vienna Open, Paris Masters and the ATP Finals in Turin, getting the better of Alcaraz. His unprecedented indoor hardcourt form shined once again, which allowed him to have the terrific end to the campaign he did. However, this was not enough to re-claim the number one spot, which switched hands after the defeat at Flushing Meadows to his nemesis Alcaraz.
All attention now turns to the
Australian Open, commencing on January 18 - February 1. Before that, Sinner will renew his rivalry with Alcaraz in the Hyundai Card Super Match in Incheon, South Korea, on 10 January as preparation for the trip to Melbourne.
