Stefanos Tsitsipas booked the Astana Open final over
Andrey Rublev coming back to win 4-6 6-4 6-3.
The Greek player has been playing very solid tennis all week long yet many considered Rublev the favourite simply due to him having bested the Greek a couple of times. Their most recent match was won by Rublev and today it seemed like the Russian had the formula once more.
He broke Tsitsipas in the first game of the match and it was simply a consequence of Rublev proving a bit better in this part of the match although he was not perfect. Both players found a really good rhythm after not and not much happened. Tsitssipas had a couple of break points at 5-4 when Rublev serve for the set but wasted all of them.
He faced some issues on his serve early in the second set as well but for the most part, held his own. Rublev had no issues on his serve either so the games piled up. Eventually, the frustration of Rublev cost him towards the end as he dropped his serve at 4-5 to lose the second set. His inability to control his emotions once again proved too much.
A similar thing happened in the final set as well. Rublev for the most part was a bit better and he had multiple break points midway through the final set. He didn't use either and once again his emotions overcame him and he lost focus dropping serve not long after that. Tstsipas would finish it off 6-3 for the final.
