World no. 6 and a former semi-finalist
Stefanos Tsitsipas advanced to the
Australian Open fourth round following a 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 victory over Mikael Ymer in an hour and 34 minutes.
The Greek lost serve once and earned seven breaks from 12 chances, overpowering Mikael in sets two and three to move over the top, backed by 27 winners and 20 unforced errors. The Swede stayed in touch with a better-ranked opponent in the opening nine games of the first set, suffering a break at 4-5 and losing ground to propel Stefanos into the last 16. The Greek is happy with his current game, saying he would need another high performance versus Matteo Berrettini or Karen Khachanov in the next round.
"It took some time for me to get used to the new conditions on John Cain, but I'm thrilled with my game. I think I showed good tennis today. Mike is someone that I've known for a long time, and it's quite important for me to have battles like this against him and for the next generation of tennis. All of us have been working hard to get where we are today.
Both Karen and Matteo are great opponents; I've played them in the past. I have to prepare for something difficult; it doesn't matter who out of the two wins. They both share a similar game style, and both have spent a fair amount of time in the top-10. They are good players, and I'm expecting a fight," Stefanos Tsitsipas said.
