Stefanos Tsitsipas was one of several prominent tennis players that said he would not be getting the COVID-19 vaccine but he changed his mind. The Greek player said a month ago that he believed that young and healthy people are better off catching the virus and building natural immunity than taking a vaccine that hasn't been tested thoroughly.
Speaking to Antenna TV back in Greece Tsitsipas admitted he will get vaccinated later in the year in order to be able to fully enjoy a normal life again. Asked whether he will get vaccinated he said:
“It will certainly happen this year."
Asked whether it was to return to normal life he said "Yes, that is the reason."
He also pulled back on his comments from earlier in the year which were heavily criticized in his native Greece by saying:
“I am not a doctor; I am a tennis player, so I may not have the most substantiated opinion when it comes to medical issues.”
The Greek player is set to return to tennis at the Laver Cup later this week.
