Fonseca reaches first ATP 500 final; rallies past Munar
The World No. 46 Joao Fonseca will go for his second ATP-level final after winning 7-6(4), 7-5 in almost two hours of play. The Brazilian signs a great week, marked by withdrawals from two of his opponents, and secured a notable victory against Jaume Munar (No. 42) with a comeback in the second set from a break down.
The first set was a struggle where both players held their service games without problems. The teenager had an incredible 95% first serve points won, against 81% for Munar. There were no break points for either player, and Fonseca was especially aggressive with 26 winners against 16 for his rival. The set went to a tie-break without major differences, and a single mini-break ended up giving the set to Fonseca, 7-6(5).
In the second set, it was Munar who started with the advantage, getting a break on his first opportunity. The Spaniard went up 4-2 before Fonseca managed a notable comeback, winning 5 of the last 6 games played. The teenager took advantage of 2/3 break opportunities and won 78% of first serve points, against 70% for his rival. Fonseca secured his first ATP 500 final and will advance 12 positions in the ranking to World No. 34—his best ranking so far. It will be his second final, in search of a new title after lifting the trophy at the Argentina Open earlier this season. If he wins, he could enter the Top 30 for the first time in his career.

Davidovich Fokina advances to 5th Career final after Humbert retirement
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (No. 18) advanced to his 4th final of the season and 5th of his career, this time capitalizing on the injury withdrawal of his opponent Ugo Humbert (No. 24), who dealt with low back issues since the first set and ended up retiring in the second set after being broken, at 6-7, 1-3.
Davidovich did not have a great serving performance in the first set, with only 55% first serves in compared to 65% for Humbert, and slightly lower effectiveness than the Frenchman (81% vs. 88% for the Frenchman). At 2-1, it was the first moment when Humbert requested a medical time-out, but he managed to stay in the match toe-to-toe with his rival. The Spaniard saved a couple of break points along the way and had no break opportunities, taking everything to the tie-break, where he ended up prevailing with a single mini-break.
As soon as the second set began, Davidovich Fokina got an early break and won 12 of the first 14 points played. The Spaniard completely took over the match against an injured Humbert, who ended up retiring after one last service game. Davidovich is the 5th player to reach at least 4 finals this season, behind Alcaraz (19), Sinner (8), Auger-Aliassime, and Bublik (4). The Spaniard guaranteed his entry into the Top 15 for the first time in his career and will seek his first ATP-level title this Sunday against Fonseca.
