Touted to be a dark horse at this year's Wimbledon, Sebastian Korda received some flak from fans and critics following his disappointing opening round loss.
The American fell in four sets to Czech veteran Jiri Vesely in their first round clash on Wednesday, an unexpected upset given he himself had earlier stated he was one of the favorites to lift the title, alongside the likes of Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.
Korda was the recipient of some harsh comments from tennis fans after his loss, with several mocking him for his subpar performance.
"How very American of Sebastian Korda to talk about how he’s the one who can beat Djokovic and go far at Wimbledon, only to be annihilated in the first round. Just let the tennis do the talking. Please!" one fan said.
"You knew when he said he was a fav to win what was going to happen," another fan said.
"I guess he learned his lesson about professing to be a "favorite" on grass when he hasn't done anything yet. Better to keep your mouth shut," offered another fan.
"Well he seemed to consider himself a favorite i don’t know if anyone else did 😂," opined yet another fan.
