Sebastian Korda found his way past Flavio Cobolli 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 to reach the third round at the 2024 Rome Open. But what made headlines was his superb response to certain members of the crowd.
He blew a kiss to a group of disrespectful fans who were heckling him all game and then waved goodbye and he confirmed why on social media after sealing his win which set up later a clash with compatriot Taylor Fritz. He said that the group of fans were talking inappropriately about his girlfriend, family and team for the whole two and a half hours.
He said that it gave him inner motivation to find a way through a tough tie at the Foro Italico and. "Shoutout to the fans behind me for talking inappropriately about my girlfriend, family and team for 2.5hrs. Thank you for the extra motivation," he wrote on social media. He received further jeering from the set of fans after the gesture but it proved to fuel the fire instead of putting it out.
