The hometown favourite was able to overcome
Alexander Zverev in a tight battle in three sets 4-6 6-3 6-4 to advance at the
Rotterdam Open.
This was always going to be a very tough matchup for Zverev because of Griekspoor is anything, he's super solid on serve and very hard to break. That proved correct this time around although Zverev had his chances. The first set was played well by Zverev as he jumped out to an early lead and held it to win the set 6-4.
The second set went in Griekspoor's favour because Zverev had one bad game which is not so unusual for him. At times his serve will go and indoors that is is very costly. The final set was one that Zverev will remember for a while. He had a 40-15 advantage midway through the set but failed to see that chance.
A couple of games later, his serve went away and Griekspoor was able to bait out a few cheap errors including two double faults in the same game. From there it was a rather simple journey to the finish line as he took the final set 6-4. A superb display from the Dutch player as he had 12 aces and 37 winners in total. Both numbers were in his favour compared to Zverev.
