Up against it after the first day of action but Team World without the superpowers of Carlos Alcaraz and even Alexander Zverev would've been forgiven for wilting under the task but they didn't as they produced a dramatic win on Sunday to complete an almighty comeback.
It is a third victory though in the last four years for the tennis superpowers with Alex de Minaur also a star of the show having won seven of the 13 points required to win the title with four in singles on Saturday, three in singles on the final day and also doubles. But it was Fritz who claimed it with an incredible 6-3, 7-6(4) victory over Alexander Zverev that gave them a conclusive 15-9 lead with Joao Fonseca managing to gain the one extra point needed.
Fritz broke Zverev in the opening service game and was fairly dominant throughout proceedings. Apart from one game at 4-3 in the second set when his brain suddenly switched off, it was the American at his best winning 79% of first serve points and 70% on his second.
Zverev was set to fight for it though. He produced a spirited comeback to force a second set tie-break which of course would be boom or bust for either team. But the tie-break was all Fritz. He surged into a 3-0 lead with an incredible backhand lob winner. He produced the sublime again as he managed to claim the tie-break with a backhand volley on Championship point to complete the comeback for Team World.

How it happened

Despite being an exhibition event, it is one that means a lot to the players including to Fritz who said there is going to be some wild celebrations in LA as they have secured glory again. "We're going to have a fun night. We're definitely popping champagne in the locker room in a few minutes," Fritz said.
"The energy from the team, ... the moments of winning feel so much better and the moments of losing feel so much worse. You're doing it for all these guys. It fires me up so much. I always feel I play my best tennis in team environments.
"Seeing these guys on the bench getting pumped up, seeing a legend of the sport like Andre jumping out of his seat cheering for me, it's just impossible not to give everything you have in every point."
As a reminder of what went on before that. Team World led 9-3 after a clean sweep on Saturday. This after Team Europe started with a clean sweep of their own on Day One. But the difference maker over the course of the event was that the points are worth more each day too. So as soon as Team World got into their mojo, it proved to be theirs to win. On the final day, Carlos Alcaraz teamed up with Casper Ruud to offer Team Europe a semblance of hope. They earned a 7-6(4), 6-1 win over Michelsen and Opelka.
However Alex de Minaur who like alluded to garnered much point success ended up winning 6-3, 6-4 over 20-year-old Jakub Mensik to make it 12-6 in favour of Team World. It was all on Carlos Alcaraz who managed to have success seeing off Francisco Cerundolo to close the gap. They were only three points behind. But Fritz was the nail in the coffin for their hopes as he managed to quell Zverev and seal the ttile. Zverev had a chance at 12-12 and force a one-set doubles play-off but he was unable to get past Fritz.
The event will be defended in 2026 albeit not in the US with the tournament moving back to the UK and London with The O2 Arena playing host.
