Taylor
Fritz continues to struggle in Grand Slam tournaments as he was eliminated from
the 2023
Wimbledon.
The
American suffered a surprising defeat at the hands of Swedish player Mikael
Ymer. Fritz had a two-set lead and a break in his favor, but his level dropped
and Ymer managed to turn the match around that seemed already lost.
After
winning the first two sets 6-3, 6-2, Fritz started making numerous unforced
errors and his serving effectiveness declined, allowing Ymer to win the next
three sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
Fritz's
early exit is another disappointing result for him, as he has failed to reach
the fourth round in the past four Grand Slam tournaments, despite being
considered one of the favorites as a top-10 player. In previous years, his
performance has also been underwhelming, with only one quarterfinal and one
fourth-round appearance in his entire career.
His best
showing came at Wimbledon 2022, where he reached the quarterfinals but lost to
Rafael Nadal. In that match, Fritz lost in the final tiebreak of the fifth set
against the Spaniard, who withdrew from the subsequent semifinal match against
Nick Kyrgios, allowing Kyrgios to advance directly to the final without having
played.
Taylor Fritz's overall record is 59% at the Australian Open, 50% at the French Open, 56% at Wimbledon, and 46% at the US Open. This amounts to a total of 53% of matches won, with 32 victories and 28 defeats.
The American tennis player is currently ranked No. 9 in the world and his best results in the past 52 weeks include titles at the ATP 500 Tokyo Open and ATP 250 Delray Beach Open. Although he hasn't reached any finals, he has accumulated a significant number of points through several semifinal appearances, including the ATP Finals, Monte-Carlo Open, ATP 500 Acapulco, and the ATP 250 events at Dallas Open, Munich Open, and Geneva Open.
With these achievements, Fritz has accumulated a total of 3310 points, placing him ahead of Tiafoe. However, 'Big-Foe' has a good chance of surpassing Fritz as the highest-ranked American player if he advances to the quarterfinals of a tournament.
