Australian Open a few weeks away, there is still a lot of controversy regarding the health guidelines for unvaccinated players. World No.1
Novak Djokovic has refused to make his vaccination status known, casting doubt on his participation at the first Grand Slam of the season.
There is a stalemate between Tennis Australia and the Victoria government, as Victoria Premier Dan Andrews is adamant that unvaccinated players will not be allowed entry into the state.
Although Djokovic has refused to answer if he is vaccinated or whether or not he'll compete at next year's event, Eurosport tennis analyst Barbara Schett believes the Serbian got vaccinated a long time ago but has chosen not to disclose it.
"I am convinced that Djoković has been vaccinated for a long time already, but doesn't want to tell anyone," said Schett.
Djokovic has made it clear he would make his decision when an official announcement is made by the tournament organizers, with the nine-time defending champion stating that his vaccination status was a private matter.
"Regarding Australia – to avoid speculation and assumptions, I am waiting for the official announcement to be released before I decide what I will do," said the 20-time Grand Slam champion.
"I will not reveal my status, whether I have been vaccinated or not. It is a private matter and an inappropriate inquiry. People go too far these days in taking the liberty to ask questions and judge a person. Whatever you say, 'yes', 'no', 'maybe', 'I am thinking about it', they will take advantage."
