Norway’s tennis star Casper Ruud has played down his chances
at the Roland Garros despite his impressive performances in the recent past.
The 25-year-old is going through a fabulous 2024 season where he has now won most
matches (26) after his recent heroics in the Barcelona Open after beating
Australia’s Jordan Thompson in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-4.
With that win, the current world number six has booked his
place in the quarterfinal of the event where he will face Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi.
Ruud was later quoted in a report where he downplayed his chances at the Roland
Garros.
“I don’t think I’m a better player than in Monte Carlo, it’s
only been a few days, but I can say that I’m playing better compared to last
year,” he said. “I would love for that great moment to come for me, but I can’t
go to Roland Garros thinking I’m going to win it, tennis doesn’t work like
that. You can dream about it, you can be convinced and try, but
I’m not going to go there thinking it’s going to happen. I have played in two
finals in the last two years, a fantastic experience that made me want the
title even more, but I will not land in Paris expecting to win the trophy.”
