Jannik Sinner is back from his holiday with Anna Kalinskaya but unfortunately for the World No.1, he has developed a fever so won't be heading to the
Olympic Games yet as expected.
Sinner will be one of the last players to arrive in Paris ahead of the July 27 start date with sources according to
ANSA learning that he will not leave on Tuesday like what was initially planned in his preparation.
As a result, he is considered likely to depart for France on Thursday, the day in which the tournament begins with the first matches set to take place on Saturday. The draw is also set to take place on Thursday when Sinner arrives so he will learn his fate likely when he is en route.
But it is not ideal preparation for the World No.1 who will be one of the favourites for an Olympic gold medal thus is his prowess not only on clay but also in tournaments representing his country. He managed to anchor Italy to Davis Cup glory in November starting his run over Novak Djokovic in the process too.
But as Elena Rybakina can attest to who has also been ill and tried to play, it will prove difficult for him especially if he gets. a tough draw as no doubt it will take a few days for his immune system to return to normal. He was spotted enjoying a holiday last week with his new girlfriend, Anna Kalinskaya.
Kalinskaya unlike Sinner will not head to Paris after deciding against trying to enter as a neutral athlete. She will instead play DC Open next weekend alongside the likes of Emma Raducanu, Aryna Sabalenka and Madison Keys who decided against their spots too. This year has seen many have to decide between either playing in the US early or the Olympic Games with Canada taking place in the week after the four year cycle event.
As a result, the change in timezone and also surface has left a lot of players likely undercooked for either the hard court swing afterwards or heading back onto clay. While Sinner made the Olympic Games decision, his girlfriend took a different tact.
