Andy Roddick has trouble predicting the 2022 US Open because he doesn't know in what shape Rafael Nadal is.
Nadal has played last week in Cincinnati but the Spaniard did not look too good in his match against Borna Coric. In hindsight, the defeat doesn't look too bad cause Coric won Cincinnati but it's still unclear in what shape he really is.
Up until recently he still battled an injury that forced him to abandon plans of playing in Montreal and for the outcome of the US Open, Roddick thinks Nadal's health is vital:
"The big question mark is Rafa's health. He’s only had one match since he pulled out of Wimbledon. The lead-up tournaments have had some surprising winners, a guy who was ranked 150 in the world (Borns Coric) just won Cincinnati. For the first time in a long time, I think there are more question marks than answers."
When it comes to the winner, Roddick thinks the safest money as of now is on Medvedev:
"Well, it’s tough to give a prediction on the finals when we don’t even have a draw. I think Daniil Medvedev is about the safest money in the tournament right now, obviously on the heels of last year, and he’s proven that he likes the courts."
