It's been a rought stretch for Alexander Zverev against Daniil Medvedev as the Russian proved better in five consecutive matches prior to this one. He was able to overcome that in this match by playing superb tennis from start to finish and win 6-4 6-4. After the match he was very happy saying:
“It was great. I won the [Nitto ATP] Finals, in the final against someone I had lost five times in a row, so I had to play one of my best matches. I am happy about that and happy to go on holiday with this win.”
The win capped off a superb season for Zverev where he lifted multiple trophies including two ATP 1000 trophies, the ATP Finals trophy, and the Olympic Gold. It's also something Zverev badly wanted saying:
“It is special, and I am super thrilled and happy right now. There is no better way to end the season than winning here. I am incredibly happy and I am already looking forward to next year.”
Asked what he will do moving forward Zverev explained that he will be going on a holiday but his thoughts will be on tennis as he will look forward to coming back next year and building off of this one.
