Andy Murray believes Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev could form part of a new 'Big Three' in tennis, but admitted there's no guarantee with the bar set by their predecessors.
Murray said it "takes time" for signs to appear that this will be the way forward, and spoke about the standard that has been shown by Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. "It doesn't happen from one tournament to the next. I think it happened over the course of six, seven or eight years and always playing in Grand Slam finals, so let's see," he said.
"I think it's possible, especially with Alcaraz and Sinner. I think Medvedev is brilliant too. There's a chance it could happen, but there's no guarantee."
Murray won't give up after early year struggles
It's been a tough start to the year for the Brit, only getting his first victory of the 2024 season in Qatar earlier this week, then showing frustration in defeat to Jakub Mensik in the second round. The former World No. 1 states he won't give in, despite his critics.
He appeared to say "I can't play like this anymore" towards his team during that game, leading to some questioning his immediate future in the sport. "It's been a difficult period, but I will continue to play. I don't have to do what the journalists or the fans say.
"I have the necessary ranking to play in important tournaments, I've earned it, and my desire is to continue trying. I know I can play a lot better than I have this year,"
