American tennis star Francis Tiafoe believes now is the time for the next generation of players to make their impact on Tour, as the members of the 'Big 3' no longer play as frequently as they used to in the past.
While Roger Federer is recuperating from knee surgery, Novak Djokovic is facing obstacles due to his vaccine status. Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal seems more focused on Grand Slams and preserving his body, which affords other players the chance to claim prized ATP titles.
“There’s an opening in tennis,” Tiafoe said. “Rafa and these guys aren’t playing every week. Novak, whatever he’s going through. Fed and Andy on the brink, so, you know the [next generation’s] top guys are good, but they’re beatable.
"It’s exciting times for us, there’s finally an opening for us, and I think we’re going to take it."
Tiafoe, currently ranked World No.30, remains confident that he can compete with the best on tour. The 24-year old captured his lone title at Delray Beach in 2018 and has vowed he would do everything he can to make the most during his prime years.
“Let’s take this career seriously, these next six, seven years and try to get the most out of myself,” he said at the end of last season.
“I know what I can do, I don’t think anyone has ever doubted that, but it’s: what does Frances Tiafoe look like on a day-to-day basis?”
