Danish rising talent
Holger Rune has caught the eye of many with his stellar play this year and he believes the top three are only humans.
The fact that Holger Rune considers the top three only humans is not a scientific breakthrough, Djokovic, Federer and Nadal are truly only human. However, the level of success they had in the past 15 years created such a legend around them that sometimes it's hard to believe that they are in fact only human. Nonetheless, supertalented Holger Rune admitted as much in a recent interview saying:
“I think already, in this age as an 18-year-old, to take a set [off
Novak Djokovic] is a great achievement. Something I can be proud of and
build on, which I did afterward. It’s great to also try to
compete against these guys (Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal). But also,
they’re not gods, so they make mistakes. They take some weird choices on
the court because they are also nervous. They’re also human.”
Rune referred to the US Open match where he was able to take a set off of Djokovic. Since then the Danish player strung together some solid results finishing off his year at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan. Asked about the future he admitted he wants to become one of the best in the world:
"Well, that’s the plan, I hope so! I’m telling myself also to come to take over! We’ve
already seen some new guys like [Alexander] Zverev and [Daniil]
Medvedev. But still, it’s great not to see Roger, Rafa all the time and
Novak, even though they are probably the best of our sport. We
miss those matches where they played against each other but it’s still
good fun for the audience to have some new blood and some new energy.”
