Dominic Thiem defeated
Jack Sock in the 2nd round of
Roland Garros but a late lapse of focus in the 3rd set almost cost him the set.
Dominic Thiem escaped a possibly long match against Jack Sock with a late rally in the 3rd set to advance to the 3rd round of Roland Garros. After the match he admitted he was lucky to get away with it:
"I'm very happy. I messed it up a bit in the third set, up 4-3 and 40/15. I found myself in the tie-break and he played very well, particularly in the second and third sets. I was lucky to save the three set points in the tie-break."
The US Open champion lashed out 28 winners en route to 3-0 victory against an inspired Sock. Sock had rallied late in the set to force a tiebreak and even had a 5-2 lead in it but Thiem escaped. His play was based around good serves and strong groundstrokes. Thiem was frustrated with the number of errors he committed especially late in the set to bring the number up to 24 in total.
