Alexander Zverev is still in the dark when it comes to his lung issues which have plagued him in recent months and saw him undergo a bout a pneumonia. But he is into the final of the
Paris Masters.
Zverev will now face the winner of Ugo Humbert and Karen Khachanov. But he spoke after his Quarter-Final win earlier this week about whether he has recovered from his health issues with a resounding no.
He said that he will go back home before Turin to have more tests and assess what is up and likely get a prognosis. But after seeing off Holger Rune, it is certainly not bad when it comes to his current form whether he is ill or not. He will look to seal yet another Masters 1000 title tomorrow.
“I don’t know,” he responded. “I have to go do the scans and do the tests. I’m doing this after this week, going to Berlin to do the tests. I do feel okay. I feel fine.
“But they also told me, doctors told me, you’ll gradually get together, but to be back at 100% will take a few months, because this is not something that just goes away like an illness within one or two weeks and then that’s it.
“It will take a few months, but I feel okay. I feel not like I’m getting super tired on the court or I struggle to breathe, but also, to be fair, the court here is so fast that there is rarely any long rallies. So I think that that is maybe helping me this week a little bit, as well.”
He spoke after his win over Rune and he said he beat a champion in the Dane. "I feel like I made it a little difficult for myself but he is a champion. It is probably his favourite tournament and favourite court, but I am happy to be in my second final here," Zverev said. "I am looking forward to it."
