Stefanos Tsitsipas is into his third
Monte-Carlo Masters final in four years after taking down
Jannik Sinner 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to hand the Italian only his second defeat of the season after losing to Carlos Alcaraz in Indian Wells.
Tsitsipas has a real love affair with the Monte-Carlo Masters now holding the single highest winning percentage in tournament history and won it in 2021 and 2022 with only last year halting his dominance when Andrey Rublev won it. It is also a huge confidence booster after a slump of sorts in recent months and he will return to the top 10 next week already. He lauded it as such post match and saying that wins like this are always the aim. Next up will be Novak Djokovic or Casper Ruud with the latter currently leading the World No.1 as of time of writing.
“Well it was tennis at its highest level that I’ve been able to play. Jannik was an extremely difficult opponent. That can be seen throughout the year so far, he’s been very consistent. He’s one of the toughest opponents I’ve faced so far. To overcome that obstacle and to find ways when there weren’t that many.. I’m very proud of that. He gave me a very difficult match. The way I overcame it and managed those situations was true excellence," said Tsitsipas.
“It for sure helps a lot knowing I have a win like this under my belt. This is something I’ve been aiming for for a long time. Getting to those levels of tennis again brings a lot of satisfaction to me. These are the type of matches you’re aiming for to overcome and prevail. Today was a great day. I’m hoping to get a good recovery and refresh my mind and come in tomorrow extra strong.”
