The 2017 ATP season was memorable for
Roger Federer, as he not only returned from a six-month injury hiatus but he also claimed two Grand Slam titles to add to his collection.
After winning the Australian Open in January, Federer rode the momentum into the "Sunshine Double" events of Indian Wells and Miami. The Swiss claimed the title in California, and proceeded to set his sights on the
Miami Open.
Following a thrilling encounter where he saved two match points in a win over Tomas Berdych in the quarterfinals, Federer faced a 21-year old
Nick Kyrgios who had defeated him in Madrid two years earlier.
In a nail-biting display of precision and attacking tennis, the duo produced the 2017 ATP Match of the Year. Federer prevailed 7-6(9) 6-7(9) 7-6(5) after three hours and 11 minutes, booking his spot in the final. He would go on to defeat Rafael Nadal and claim the third "Sunshine Double" of his career.
