Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz has admitted that winning Olympic gold will be a ‘dream’ come true.
The 20-year-old is now the talk of the town after winning
Wimbledon
2023 in London earlier this month.
Alcaraz defeated legendary Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in the final
of the third Grand Slam of the year with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6,
6–4.
Alcaraz, while talking to the media about his future goals,
stated that winning Olympic gold will be a ‘dream’ come true and also said
that winning another Grand Slam this year will be his objective for the remainder
of the season.
““To win a second [Grand Slam this year],” he said. ”It [winning
an Olympic gold] would be a dream. Not only to win a medal at singles or
doubles, but just to live the experience of a doubles with your idol would be a
memory that I would keep with special affection.”
The mega-event is set to take place in the summer of next year
in the French capital, Paris.
Alcaraz’s win in London earlier in July was indeed a special
one, considering before this year, his best appearance in the competition was
reaching the fourth round last year.
That defeat halted Djokovic’s march towards equaling former
world number one Switzerland’s Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon
titles.
However, despite that result, the 36-year-old remains the
most successful player in the men’s singles tennis history in the Open era with
23 Grand Slam titles.
