Argentina’s
Tomas Martin Etcheverry played his idol Serbia’s
Novak Djokovic in the round of 32 of the
Paris Masters on Wednesday.
The match ended with the current world number one on the
winning side in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
Despite the result, Martin Etcheverry’s journey towards facing
his idol remains a special one.
The 24-year-old showcased his journey by putting up the
points difference throughout different phases of his career.
At one stage in 2016, Martin Etcheverry just had one rating
point whereas Djokovic had 12,900 rating points.
Therefore, the La Plata-born will be extremely happy with his
overall progress over the last seven years as he is now the world number 31.
Martin Etcheverry would be relatively satisfied with his
performance in major tournaments in 2023.
For the second-year running, he played in the main round of all
the four Grand Slams and for the first time, he managed to book a place in the third
round or beyond in any of the big events.
His most notable achievement was playing in the quarterfinal
of the French Open where he lost to the current world number nine Germany’s Alexander Zverev with a score of
6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
