Carlos Alcaraz has established himself as one of the strongest forces on a tennis court and the dominance he is showing is very similar to some others we've seen in the past.
Players have had dominant runs in the past but very few people dominated the way we've seen Alcaraz dominating now. He's overpowering people on the court and it looks very much like the way Nadal dominated at Roland Garros at his peak. Novak Djokovic had that season where he didn't lose in months.
Roger Federer had also very dominant runs in the past and that's the player Carlos Alcaraz actually reminds
Toni Nadal of. Federer was a spectacular tennis player at his peak being able to destroy any opponent on the court. Toni Nadal seems something like that with Alcaraz as well, especially after his trashing of a very good player in Tsitsipas.
Writing in a column for El Pais, Nadal said:
“He reminds me of the superiority Federer showed in the end of 2003 & in 2004. So crushing was his invincibility that we had to wait for a later generation for Roger to find himself in trouble. I sense it will be the same with Carlos”
Facing Djokovic
He will put that dominant tennis on test against Novak Djokovic later today when they square off in the Roland Garros semi-final. Many things will be directly impacted by the outcome of this match. From the GOAT Race, to the legacy of Novak Djokovic, and the legacy of Carlos Alcaraz as well. The match is set to begin at 14:45 CET so don't miss it. If you do miss check back here and we'll have a fresh report for you. Alcaraz is favoured to win though it should be a match that goes on for at least 4 and quite possibly five sets.
