In the battle of the lengthy surnames, Emil Ruusuvuori proved better than Botic van de Zandschulp on Dutch soil 4-6 6-2 6-1.
It was a very strange match where Botic opened well as Ruusuvuori struggled with his timing. The Finish player is a very good player but he can overhit quite a few times until he finds his rhythm. When he does he is extremely dangerous. Early on it was a struggle for him against the native player who had the crowd behind him.
Botic finished off the opening set with 6-4 but it was a much closer match than that. You could argue the Finish player was playing a bit better as well but the native player held on. Things went south for Botic a lot in the 2nd set. Ruusuvuori was finally hitting his forehand the way he can and the serve was doing adequate damage as well.
It was a dominant display from Emil who won the set 6-2. The final set was even more dominant from Ruusuvuori as van de Zandschulp barely won any points on his serve in that set. He didn't appear to be hurt but he certainly played much worse than he can.
