In a tightly-contested encounter, fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas was able to match the serving prowess of American John Isner to advance at the Western & Southern Open.
The World No.6 managed to overcome his towering opponent in two tiebreaks, taking the match 7-6(2) 7-6(4). Facing an opponent like Isner, the Greek star had to be impeccable on serve. He won 84% of points on his first serve, hitting ten aces in the process.
Neither man was broken during the match and it came down to Tsitsipas's precision and mobility. The reigning
ATP Finals champion employed his superior shot-making ability to neutralize Isner in each tiebreak, and emerged victorious after an hour and 43 minutes.
Tsitsipas will face another giant in American
Reilly Opelka, who
upset sixth seed
Matteo Berrettini earlier in the day. The two have never faced each other on the ATP Tour, with Opelka looking to make his third quarterfinal of the season.
