Former World No.1 Andy Murray was unable to overcome the elements and big-hitting of Milos Raonic, as he was dumped out of the Western & Southern Open on Tuesday evening.
The three-time Grand Slam champion could not find an answer to Raonic's huge serves and powerful groundstrokes, as the Canadian secured a convincing 6-2 6-2 victory. Prior to the day's encounter, Murray held a 9-3 career lead over his opponent, winning the last eight. However, the Brit has been hampered by two hip surgeries which have seen his ranking drop outside the Top 100.
Raonic secured the early break to lead 3-2, and dominated for the remainder of the first set. His British counterpart was unable to find any rhythm, as Raonic dictated play with powerful groundstrokes from the baseline. A rain delay offered Murray some reprieve as play was stopped for an hour and a half. However, Raonic opened the second set by breaking Murray and racing to a 2-0 lead. The former World No.3 never looked back, and closed out the match after an hour and 30 minutes.
The Canadian has looked impressive this week, as he is yet to drop serve in Cincinnati. Furthermore, his movement and shot-making have been impeccable. He next faces Serbian
Filip Krajinovic, who brushed past qualifier
Marton Fucsovics with a 6-2 6-1 victory.
