Stefanos Tsitsipas could be set to announce a new coach after being seen on the court with 1999 Australian Open finalist Thomas Enqvist at the
Rotterdam Open.
Tsitsipas has been coached by his father Apostolos his whole career, but may be changing direction. Controversy has followed Apostolos around of late, with a coaching charge being issued during the Australian Open. Enqvist was spotted watching Tsitsipas and talking to him after practice sparking rumours of a possible coaching change.
According to reports, the duo became very close during the 2021 Laver Cup where Enqvist was vice team captain. It remains to be seen if this is a temporary or permanent arrangement, and whether it means Apostolos will step down from his role or be kept on as part of his son's entourage. Tsitsipas spoke about his father's affinity to talk during matches before saying:
"I've talked to him about it. I've tried, spent countless hours trying to figure it out with him, but it's part of him. I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep receiving coaching violations, even though I will never listen to any single thing he says."
He further said:
"But it's fine, they can do that if they want if they believe it's right. That was also one of the reasons last year I went out publicly on one of my social media platforms and said that I think coaching should be allowed, simply because coaches do it anyways."
